6 ELECTRONIC TRANSCRIPT ORDERING STEPS YOU NEED TO KNOW!
Only parent and student orders are honored. We do not accept requests from colleges. Do not rely on your college to order for you, even if they offer.
Place your final order NOW. Be sure to select the "Hold for Grades" option. The "Hold for Grades" option is available at the end of the Parchment order process.
All "Hold for Grades" orders will be auto released during the last week of June. It is normal for colleges to hound all students for their final transcript. This is because busy seniors forget and high schools throughout the country have different release dates. If you ordered your final transcript, then your answer can confidently be, "I ordered my transcript on Parchment. My school will release my transcript to the school the end of June."
Parents should remember they can help with orders through a Parent Account of their own, but only until their student turns 18 years of age. Seniors/graduates must learn to independently use Parchment. As of July 1st, Parchment will be their official transcript order point throughout their lifetime.
Parchment is only FREE to seniors until July 30th. Parchment will charge a $FEE$ per order starting August 1st.
Ordering after July 30th? Still order through Parchment. They are less expensive, electronic, and fast. Ordering through OHS is only for special circumstances, is ordered through the registrar in the main office involves a fee, order form, proof of ID, paper copy only, and take 5-10 working days.
Current Enrolled Seniors & Juniors: The essential reasons currently enrolled students and their parents should regularly use Parchment for free PDF current transcript copies and submissions. Note that through parchment this process can be as quick as minutes or typically no longer than 3 working days. (On the other hand, submitting paper & mail copies are typically through Mrs. Pilon in the Student Services Center and can take up to 10 or more working days to be received by college or trade schools. Paper copies are encouraged for official signed-sealed documentation when needed/required, which can be the case for scholarships.)
Self-copy - a free PDF to save to personal computer and print at home as needed, such as college rep appointments, college fairs, insurance discounts.
Colleges & Trade Schools - a free PDF sent by secure network electronically to specific colleges or trade schools chosen during the order process. Note that schools out of state sometimes require
NCAA Eligibility Center - service for scholar athletes that provides a way to submit a free PDF by secure network electronically directly to the NCAA Eligibility Center. Some athletes will be required to upload to the NCAA every semester from their Junior thru Senior year. As of July 2015 this service is now FREE through Parchment.
Depending on a college's application policies, some seniors can apply to college(s) during the summer months leading up to the start of their senior year and on through to the annual November College Application Week events. it is important to keep in mind that during that time-frame the transcript available is the junior year/6 semester transcript. This means that colleges that receive an applicants 6th semester transcript will in time expect the student to provide them an updated 7th and eventually 8th semester transcripts as well. This means the average senior will be required to use the Parchment services anywhere from 6 to 12 times during their senior year and should plan accordingly.
The timing of when updated official transcripts become available after the end of a semester can vary in Michigan due to school closures following harsh winter storms that may have resulted in multiple school closures. When this happens the school board considers extending the actual end date of a semester. This can cause stress over supplying transcripts to a college that is expecting a final transcript. When this happens the student will need to communicate with the college about the delayed transcript and they will understand and respond accordingly.
In any event, transcripts are finalized and released once the grades are stored by the Shiawassee Regional School District, followed by manual college dual enrollment grade entry and grade change period. Once all of these factors come together the transcripts are then deemed official and available for release by Mrs. Pilon to Parchment. This can take anywhere from 2-3 weeks after the official end of a semester. Seniors are encouraged to place "Next Grading Cycle" requests on Parchment, which results in requests remaining on hold in a Parchment cue to be released the very moment Mrs. Pilon deems the updated transcripts as final. The list below will help seniors schedule requests on their personal calendars. Students can also Follow the OHS SSC on Twitter and receive a live tweet announcing a release of transcripts has taken place.
Junior Year/6th Semester = Available Approximately 3rd Week of June
Senior Year/7th Semester = Available Approximately 3rd Week of January
Senior Year/8th Semester = Available Approximately 3rd Week of June
Seniors - remember to NOT resubmit the same "old" copy each time, but request a "new" updated transcript. It is easy to get confused about which transcript is on record in your personal Parchment profile. We encourage you to save each transcript to your personal computer and/or print it for your personal records before discarding it from your Parchment archives. Doing so will help eliminate confusion over submitting verses re-submitting a transcript to a college.
