Don't miss this career exploration opportunity!

Are you interested in your student taking the ASVAB?

Each fall, Owosso High School offers students the opportunity to explore their unique skills, work-related aptitudes, and potential careers by taking the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) test. The ASVAB is a valuable assessment tool that allows students to evaluate their workplace skills. Subsequently, the results and interpretations will be provided to students, offering insights into their career aptitudes as they plan for life after high school.

In addition to helping students identify suitable career paths, the ASVAB results offer valuable information about areas in which they naturally excel. This knowledge can inform their decisions about further education or training beyond high school. Sign-up details are published early each fall, usually between September and early October. Please feel free to reach out to our counselors at any time to discuss this opportunity.

What is the ASVAB?

The ASVAB, or Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery, is a well-established aptitude test developed by the Department of Defense. It is offered to high schools nationwide free of charge and is designed to "help predict future academic and occupational success." After taking the test, students have the opportunity to participate in a post-test interpretation session. During this session, students can review their ASVAB scores in light of their interests and strengths. This post-test review provides an excellent chance to "explore numerous pathways to potentially fulfilling career fields" while planning for a career during and beyond high school.

To learn more about the ASVAB, we invite you to review the ASVAB's Parent Guide for Career Planning

"20 hours of practice on Khan Academy is associated with an average 115-point score increase from the PSAT/NMSQT to the SAT, nearly double the average gain without Khan. In 2017, Khan Academy and the College Board, the maker of the SAT, analyzed gains between the PSAT/NMSQT and the SAT and found a positive relationship between use of Official SAT Practice and score improvements on the SAT. Score gains are consistent across gender, family income, race, ethnicity and parental education level." ~ Raising confidence and scores reported by Khan Academy, 5/8/2017
